Main area of activity of organization: | The investigation of history and theory of architecture and art since ancient times up to present. |

Main scientific achievements made over the last five years: | Main achievements during the period of 1996-2001 are the creation of history of decorative-applied art in Azerbaijan, sketches on history of professional and folk music, development of cinema and theatre art of Azerbaijan, architectural encyclopedia of Baku, series of creative portraits of masters of architecture and art of Azerbaijan. Historiography and art-criticism of Azerbaijan and history of music science as well as the conception of development of art-criticism for the period of 2001-2010 were created in the sphere of theory and methodology. |

Brief information on the organization’s history: | The Institute was created in 1945 on the initiative of Azerbaijan composer, academician Uzeir Hajybayov and originally was called the Institute of History of Azerbaijan Art. Since 1948 in the course of 40 years the outstanding architect, academician Mikail Huseinov has been at the head of the Institute. |
