	Main area of activity of organization:	Development of scientific bases for synthesizing of additives of various functional actions, improving the operational properties of lubricating oils, fuels and special fluids; technology of their preparation and elucidation of new sources of raw materials related to their production, conduction of fundamental researches on the rational utilization of the existing resources.
	Main scientific achievements made over the last five years:	Synthesis of various additives possessing high antioxidant, anticorrosive, detergent-dispersing, antiscuffing, antiwear, viscous and other properties and preventing also biodamage has been carried out. An action mechanism of some synthesized additives, the relationship between their composition structure and functional properties were also studied. New multifunctional additives for motor oils AKI-140, AKI-144, AKI-150, AKI-154, AKI-160, CC-150f, CC-300f, CC-300p and exceed in certain degree the following foreign multifunctional additives AKN-202, CC-150SN, CC-300S₂, PS-300 ap. Some of these additives were prepared without stage of sulfonation of initial raw material and it has a great ecologically meaning. With the use of Baku base oils and recommended additives were created oils for fast motion transport diesels-motor oil M-16 НХП-3. A number of new motor oils of group "B₂" and "Г₂" and various transmission, hydraulic and conservation oils and some cutting fluids were created and commercialized. The scientific activity of the Institute highly evaluated by International organizations. For attainable success in the field of quality, scientific innovation and new technology "Initiative Directions of Bisness" in 2001-2003 Institute of Chemical Additives consistently was decorated by medals "Gold Category", "Platinum Category" and "Brilliant Category". The preparatory Committee of XXXV International prize "For leadership and Enterprise prestige" in collaboration with "Club of Trade Leaders 2005" awarded the Institute by this prize. This decision was based on information of 7000 members of "Club of Trade Leaders" from 112 countries. Director of the Institute, corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan V.M.Farzaliyev with the gold badge Management of global quality" was also rewarded. Spanish journal "Actualidad" (Madrid) took into consideration the prestige in international relations and attainable results was awarded the Institute with the prize "Leader in Prestige and quality" of XXI century. In 2005 by Central Department of Science and Technique at Senate of USA the Institute was given grant USD 2000000.
	Brief information on the organization’s history:	Institute of Chemistry of Additives of the ANAS was established in 1965 based on the laboratory of lubricant additives, headed by academician A.M.Guliyev, at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. Academician A.M.Guliyev was a founder, organizer and a permanent director of the institute till 1987. Since then the Institute is managed by one of his disciple, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, professor and corresponding member of the ANAS V.M.Farzaliyev. At present, there are 14 laboratories and 3 departments at the Institute. The staff of it numbers 245 collaborators. Among them 16 – Dr. Sci. (1 academician and 1 corresponding member), 46 – candidate of Sci. of ANAS During the activity, based on the results of fundamental researchers, various additives, lubricants and special fluids have been developed and installed in different towns of the former USSR (Baku, Sumgayit, Ufa, Perm, Yaroslavl, Shostka, Novokuibyshevsk, etc.). About 20% of the whole amount of the additives, manufacturing in the former USSR, tell to the share of additives having been developed by the scientists of the Institute of Chemistry of Additives (СБ-3, ИХП-101, БФК-у, depressor АзНИИ, ИХП-21, ИХП-14А and etc.) For production additives developed at the Institute of Chemistry of Additives in Sumgayit was organized profiled plant of additives. At present there are produced additives. At the same time all motor oils produced at Baku refinery (now it is “Azerneftyag”), contained additives developed at the Institute of Chemistry of Additives. Production of lubricating oils including additives which, were produced at the Institute of Chemistry of Additives (М-16 ИХП-3, ТАД-17ИХП) was arranged. These lubricating oils and additives provide normal work of special engines and transmission systems. Multifunctional additives of thiophosphate (ИХП-388) and sulphonate (ИХП-234) types were created. They commercialized permitting to develop high effective motor and hydraulic additives. Cutting oils НСК-5у and Азерол - 1,2,3,5 were created. The first smoke suppressant additive ИПХ-706 markedly decrease smoke emitted from diesel engines and their toxicity. This additive was the first in the former USSR and have been recommended for commercial production. For the last years by collective of the Institute were created the new effective motor oils of group "B" ana "Г" answering the contemporary requirements and they commercialized in НПЗ "Азернефтйаг". Based on fundamental researches a variety of new organic compounds have been synthesized and investigated as additives. The relationship between composition, structure and functional properties of various classes of organic compounds and an action mechanism have been studied. For the last years by collective of the Institute were created and organized production of new moto oils of group "B" and "Г" answering all contemporary requirements in organization "Azerbaycan Neft Emali". In the field of fundamental researches it is necessary to note the work on synthesis of new organic compounds and study of them as additives, establishment of relationship between composition, structure and functional action. The researches on mechanism of action of some additives were conducted.
