Main area of activity of the structural unit:

Physiological, biochemical and molecular-genetic bases of production processes of plants. The principles determined  productivity  and high yield in ideal  type  wheat were developed; positive correlation  between  photisynthesis and photorespiration was  shown for the first time. Structural and functional  organization of carbonic anhydrase was  studied  in detail, the crystals were obtained and molecular model of the quaternary structure of carbonic anhydrase was  suggested. The genetic code of phosphoglucolate phosphatase, a key en zyme  of photorespiration, was determined for the first time.
Structural organization of chloroplast photochemical systems was studied and the model of topography of pigment-protein complexes in thylakoid membrane was suggested.

 

Main scientific achievements of the structural unit:

The  genome library of chloroplast DNA was created and gene transfer was made by the vector systems  and regenerates were obtained. Induced morphogenesis in wheat cell culture was made and plants for initial material in selection were reconstructed. Full nucleotide sequences of plastid genes in rice, tobacco and maize were analized by the computer methods and a great number of nuclear origion regulation sites were revealed on 5' - promotor regions of these genes.
