Main scientific achievements:

Scientific- research works carried out by Huseynova I.M. was basically  focus on the study  of mechanisms of synthesis, assembly and formation of main structural-functional components of photosynthetic apparatus of higher plants, mainly in wheat genotypes, influence of various abiotic stress factors on these processes, including drought, salt and light.  On these grounds, the following can be underlined:

  • Molecular-genetic mechanisms of formation and assembly of pigment-protein complexes in photosynthetic membrane of wheat chloroplasts are investigated in a complex manner for the first time.

  • It was suggested that regulation of formation of PS I and II and light-harvesting complexes in photosynthetic membrane of wheat, takes place, mainly at post transcription level.

  • Basic principles of assembly of Chl-protein complexes were determined during biogenesis of photosynthetic apparatus.

  • Firstly in wheat plants, the bands in the 20,5 to 19 and 17,5 to 15,5 kD regions which related to early light-induced proteins (ELIP) have been observed during the first times of greening and it is proved that they are carotenoid-binding proteins.

  • It is established that caretonoids play a structural and stabilizing role at the formation and organization of chlorophyll – protein complexes of photosynthetic membranes.

  • It is shown that blocking of caretenoids synthesis results in full disappearance or strong reduction of light-harvesting complexes proteins which are encoded in a nucleus and their basic native forms.

  • It was concluded that in the leaves of wheat in vivo there is a linkages between genetic and protein synthesizing systems of plant cells, nuclear and chloroplast in the formation and function of Chl-protein complexes, and this cooperation is expressed not only in a joint assembly of its individual (Reaction center, their minor components and light-harvesting Chl а/б- proteins fibers), but also and in the regulation of the level of their synthesis.

  • Molecular mechanisms of protective - adaptive processes of adaptation of the photosynthetic apparatus of various wheat genotypes to influence to drought and salinity are revealed and suitable parameters for selection and estimations of resistant grades with the raised adaptive properties are determined. Express methods for the estimation of state of the wheat photosynthetic apparatus are developed.
