General conceptions of Azerbaijan History:

1. Generalizing studies on Azerbaijan History;

2. Historiography and source studings;

3. Political History of Azerbaijan;

4. Social and economic history of Azerbaijan;

5. The History of Azerbaijani Culturu.

From 1997 to 2001 there have been published 43 monographies, 200 articles and several booklets concerning different question of Azerbaijan history. We can point out I, II, III, IV, V volumes of "Azerbaijan history" in 7 books; "Political parties of Azerbaijan at the beginning of XX century, (1900-1917)". "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic" (in azerbaijani and Russian); "Armenian terrorism against the Turks" (in english). " Azerbaijan Republic. Ten years equal to a century. 1991-2001"; "The history of Barda - city from 3 century b.c. to 18 century a.d."; "The history of Guba"; and so on.
There are some achievements in personnel training. Two scientists depended doctoral and 14 - candidate of sciences dissertations. One scientist was selected as the member of national academy and 2 others - as associate members of the National Academy of Sciences.

In 1923 in Baku there was organized o society which was held to explore and study parallel with many other questions the history, archeology and anthropology of Azerbaijan. In 1929 on the basis of this society was established the state Azerbaijan Research Institute where Historico- ethnographic Department formed a part of it. In 1932, after formation of the Azerbaijan Department of Transcancasian Branch of the USSR'S Academy of Sciences, the Historico- ethnographic Department became a part of Azerbaijan Society of Transcancasian Branch of USSR'S Academy of Sciences as an independent sector. In 1936. The Institute of History Archaeology and Ethnography was formed on the bases of this sector. In 1940 was reestablished the Institute of History in the Azerbaijan Branch of the USSR'S Academy of sciences. In 1945, the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Republic was founded which included the Institute of History as apace of it. Later it was reorganized into the Institute  of History and Philosophy. But 1956, due to the organization of an independent sector of philosophy, within the Presidium of Azerbaijan AS, the Institute of History returned its former name.
