Main area of activity of the structural unit: | Study of the current teriofauna state. Ecological and cytogenetic monitoring of the fauna in connection with the height belt structure of landscapes which unables us to develop measures for conserving the natural landscapes and the species inhabiting those in terms of protection, conservation, reproduction and efficient utilization of biological resources.

Main scientific achievements of the structural unit: | One hundred seven mammal species were revealed in Azerbaijan till now. It was shown with morphological and cytogenetic techniques (routine-, G-, C- and Ag- staining) that the microevolutional processes and species formation in Chiroptera, Rodentia and Artiodactila are connected with the changes of the hetechromatine structure and NOR chromosome number.
