Main area of activity of the structural unit: | The animal world of Azerbaijan. The study, protection, restoration and efficient usage of the biological diversity (protozoa, helminths, insects, arthropds, amphibia, reptiles, birds, fish).

Main scientific achievements of the structural unit: | The species composition of vertebrates were studied almost completely. More than 20000 of invertebrate animals were specified till species. More than 200 new animals were described for the first time. The biological and ecological features of the species of economic importance were studied. The recommendations for protection and efficient usage of the animal species of economic importance were offered to respective organizations. More than 50 books and monographs were published, including Animal world of Azerbaijan in 3 volumes.
